Starting School for the first time

NEW STARTERS SEPTEMBER 2020

We will be holding open evenings for Parents/Carers interested in applying for a school place in Reception starting September 2020.

These will take place on Wednesday 9th October and Thursday 14th November between 4pm and 5pm.  There is no need to book a place, just turn up and have a look around our school, children and all other family members welcome!

All applications for places are made through the Durham County Council Website and need to be completed by 15th January 2020.

More information will follow but in the meantime you can have a look around this website and don't forget to sign up for the school newsletter by clicking here.  School also has a mobile App which can be downloaded from your App Store, you can access this even if your child has not already started our school and it will give you lots of information about our school.

Transferring from another school

If you would like your child to transfer to Vane Road from another school, please contact Durham Local Authority Admissions Department first (03000 265 896).  They will be able to tell you whether or not we have places available in your child's year group.

If we do, the best advice is to make an appointment to visit the school either with or without your child.  You will have the opportunity to meet a senior member of staff, discuss your child's needs and have a look around the school.

You will need to fill in the 'In Year Transfer form' which is a formal application for a place at Vane Road.

Once a formal offer of a place has been made by the Local Authority final arrangements for a start date will be made.  At Vane Road we feel that it is preferable for a child to start on a natural break in school time, for example at the beginning of a new half term or new week.
