Year 5

Welcome to the year five pages, our teachers are Mrs Cant (Class 11) and Mrs Poulter (Class 12).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have an exciting year ahead full of lots of interesting activities! On this page you will find key information about Y5 in general.

To view examples of pupils' work or learn more about the individual classes then please visit the class pages.

Homework:

The children are given a piece of Maths and a piece of English each Thursday and this is due in the following Tuesday. If there are any questions about the tasks set the children can ask on the Friday or Monday to ensure it is completed by Tuesday.

Please remember that reading is a key part of homework. The children are expected to read 5 times each week and must have their reading diary signed by an adult at least once during each week. This includes school holidays, so the children must read at least 5 times during the holiday and bring their reading diaries in signed by an adult, please.

The children will be given new spellings each Friday, and they will be tested on those spellings the following Friday, which gives them a whole week to learn them. The only exceptions to this will be on a return from a school holiday, when spellings will be given on Monday and tested on the Friday of that week.

All children now have a log-in for "Times Table Rock Stars", which will enable them to practise their 1-12 times tables and matching division facts at home. This is a completely free resource, which the children really enjoy, and can be accessed on any PC or tablet. It will greatly help them if they can use this regularly.

PE / Swimming:

All children need to have a full school PE kit in school (shorts, white T shirt and training shoes or sand shoes). Wherever possible the PE lessons will take place outside, so please ensure that the children have suitable outdoor clothes e.g. joggers and a sweatshirt, in Autumn/Winter and sun cream/sunhat in the Summer.

Spring Term (1)

In January we will be learning about the Ancient Egyptians and their way of life. This will include a trip to the Great North Museum on Tuesday 8th January.

In Science we are learning about forces, and hope to have a range of interesting, practical activities to cover this topic.
