Starting School for the first time
Parents will be informed in writing on 17th April about whether their child has been offered a place at Vane Road or another school. Please make sure you meet the deadline for accepting the place which needs to be done through Durham Local Authority.
Once the Local Authority has given the school the confirmed list of children starting school in September we will contact each parent/carer to confirm precise details.
All the children will have an initial two weeks induction period when they will spend half a day in school. For one week they will attend school for a morning, including lunch and during the other week they will attend during the afternoon. Starting dates will be confirmed asap.
We will hold a New Starter Meeting for Parents/carers on Thursday 8th June 2017 in the Infant school building hall 5- 6pm. At this meeting you will get the chance to meet key members of the school community and find out lots of information about your child starting school.
More information will follow but in the meantime you can have a look around this website and don't forget to sign up for the school newsletter by clicking here.
Transferring from another school
If you would like your child to transfer to Vane Road from another school, please contact Durham Local Authority Admissions Department first (03000 265 896). They will be able to tell you whether or not we have places available in your child's year group.
If we do, the best advice is to make an appointment to visit the school either with or without your child. You will have the opportunity to meet a senior member of staff, discuss your child's needs and have a look around the school.
You will need to fill in the 'In Year Transfer form' which is a formal application for a place at Vane Road.
Once a formal offer of a place has been made by the Local Authority final arrangements for a start date will be made. At Vane Road we feel that it is preferable for a child to start on a natural break in school time, for example at the beginning of a new half term or new week.
