Sport at Vane Road

2016-2017

Cricket - Both our Boys and Girls cricket teams managed to win their respected competitons.  Both teams played brilliant, remaining undefeated throughout.  They have now both qualified for June's county finals at Chester-Le-Street

 

Basketball - The children enjoyed terrific success at the basketball finals, winning and therefore qualfying for the county finals, which is scheduled to take place at Maiden Castle in July

Sportshall Athletics - We continued our excellent sportshall athletics record, winning 2 local finals and finishing 3rd in the county finals at Spennymoor.

 

Cross Country - During the Autumn term, our KS2 cross country team took part in a league, which to place over 3 consecutive weeks at 3 different venues.  The children excelled and all teams won their respected competition.  After that, they attended the cross country qualifier at Ferryhill.  All teams successfully qualified for the county finals at Peterlee.

2015-2016

Sportshall Athletics - Our Sportshall Athletics team kept up the tradition of winning the Sportshall Athletics competition and qualifying for the county finals.  The children competed in a range of events and performed incredibly well to achieve the gold medals.

 

FootballBoth of our football teams were action in the Sedgefield SSP Winter League.  Both teams played very well throughout the competition.  Vane Road B came 5th, however Vane Road A finished in 1st, winning all five of their games.

 

Cross Country - 28 of our finest Key Stage 2 runners took part in a Cross Country Competition at FBEC.  The children represented the school incredibly well, with every child winning a medal!  Our Year 3/4 boys team finished 2nd, year 3/4 girls 1st, year 5/6 boys 3rd and the year 5/6 girls 2nd.  Many of our children will now go onto represent the school at the County Finals in March!

 

 

 

 

 

2014 - 2015

Year 5/6 Basketball County Finals -  The year 5/6 basketball team took part in the county finals at Maiden Castle against 5 other teams from the area.  The team played well and won the bronze medals displaying great skill, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the tournament!

 

Primary Olympics - Our Year 5/6 basketball team and our Year 3/4 athletics enjoyed the Sedgefield sun when they went to participate in the Primary Olympics.  Over 400 children from across the area took part in a wide variety of sports at Sedgefield Community College.  Our basketball team were very successful winning all of their games, without conceding any baskets to earn themselves gold medals.  Our athletics team were also successful, displaying great running and throwing skills to take home the gold medals!

Year 6 Kwik Cricket -  Our Year 6 crickets participated in an excellent cricket competition at Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club against 20 other school.  Our boys team finished in 5th place and our girls team came 2nd!  The children enjoyed themselves in the sun and displayed some great batting, bowling and fielding skills throughout the day.

Football Competition at Woodham - Our Year 3,4 and 5 footballer took part in a Football competition at Woodham. Vane Road B came 3rd and Vane Road A finished 1st!  Vane Road A won all 6 of their games without conceding any goals!

 

Football Tournament - Our football team won a competition at the Alun Armstrong Centre in Shildon against 19 other teams.  The team won all 7 of their games and played fantastically well!

 

Sportshall Athletics Finals - Vane Road qualified to represent Sedgefield at the County Finals of the Sporthall Athletics.  We perfomed brilliantly and finished in 2nd place!

 

Cross Country - Our Year 3/4 Boys and Year 3/4 Girls , as well as our Year 5/6 Boys team qualified for the County Finals at Parkside School, Willington.  They all ran fantastically well in wet and windy conditions, but a special mention must go to the Year 3/4 Girls who achieved bronze medals!  Well done!

 

Netball - Vane Road's brilliant netball team qualfied for the county finals, and were up against 9 other schools from the area at Maiden Castle.  They performed incredibly well, finishing in 4th place!

 

Football - Our two teams this year have had lots of success on the pitch.  Vane Road A finished 2nd in their league, and Vane Road B also finished 2nd on goal difference in their league.  Newcastle United could do with a few of our players to help them out!!!

 

Swimming - Our swimmers took part in a gala against 5 other schools at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre.  Our children swam fantastically well and they won  bronze medals for a great 3rd place finish!

 

Basketball - Just after Christmas Vane Road A and B participated in a basketball competition at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre.  They played numerous other school and both teams managed to remain undefeated.  As a result, they played against each other in the final!  It was a tense, end to end thriller, which was won 2-1 by Vane Road A.  Vane Road A then went on to qualify for the county finals at another tournament in March.  We wish them the best of luck as they try to win the county finals in July.

 

Tag Rugby- In February, 10 of our toughest Year 5/6 children, plus Mr Cant, Mr Patel and Mr Hutchinson braved the weather to travel to Whitworth Park School.  Our children played against 20 other schools and finished in a respectable 7th place!

 

Sedgefield SSP

We are part of the Sedgefield SSP.  They organise festivals and competitions, provide the school with sports coaches and give staff numerous CPD opportunities.  Click on the hyperlink below to find out more!
