Race for life

This year we participated in a race for cancer research. The infants started off this occasion with one lap of the field, then the juniors ran 1 mile each. Many teachers also took part in this exciting event, including the SSP mascot- Flames. After running for what seemed like for ever, Mr.Pavey congratulated us happily with a medal. Many thanks should go to Mrs Beaton who took the time to organise this occurrence. Mr Hutchinson also put in his time and effort to blow up the balloons for the finish line.

England vs Wales

On Thursday 16th June, the entire school of vane road primary watched the nerve-racking England vs Wales match that ended out to be an extraordinary win for England.

All of the year five pupils gathered together in the junior hall to witness this amazing event meanwhile the other pupils cheered at their inspirations from inside their classrooms. T-shirts were worn, scarves were round necks and everyone was screaming at the top of their lungs especially Mr Hutchinson (one of our younger P.E teachers). When it was home time, all the kids raced to their parents and tried to get home as quick as possible to watch the end of this spectacular match. Vane road primary was full of joy the following morning and we owe it all to our UEFA legends.

Camping 2016

Moor House

On Thursday the 9th June, year 3 and 4 ventured out into the wilderness, to sleep in tents and enjoy a variety of exciting, fun and challenging activities. Full of excitement, nerves and laughter the children waved goodbye to school and said hello to their new adventure.

Day 1 was a buzz of activity, as children put their things into their tents and for the first time ever, they wanted to go straight to bed, however before they could they had to participate in an variety of different and new challenges. Children were split into groups and rotated around bush craft, where they learnt how to make fire using flint, the low wires, where they had to complete a trim trail without touching the floor and working in partners, followed by Frisbee golf, where they had to practise their aiming and throwing skills to get the Frisbee's in the baskets. However the one many children could not wait to have a go at was the cube! The fascinating yet nerve racking cube, meant children had to attempt a leap of faith and climb up to a rather small platform, both of which were quite high off the ground. The day was then paused for a tasty BBQ, with burgers, sausages and chicken. Once our tummy's were full, we engaged in night lining, where many children and adults dared to be blindfolded and follow a unknown path, meeting a variety of different sounds, making many of us jump or lose track of the rope. After all this excitement it was time to wind down with a magical and hot bonfire, which the children loved. The big challenge then came...getting the children into their tents and to sleep...!

Day 2 we were up bright and early, many of the children were up a lot earlier than us adults. Once we had packed our tents and had breakfast, our final day of activities began. These included a cave bus, where children had to work their way through the tunnels, some which were rather dark and had quite tight corners, children attempted to climb a wall, aiming to reach the top, as well as orienteering around the site. In addition to this there was also team games, which involved working together and communicating successfully to complete their challenge effectively. After all this excitement and laughter we had to make our way home with some very sleepy and happy children.

The children have had a great time and were an absolute delight the whole time, they were enthusiastic, well behaved and polite to the instructors and each other. The encouragement and support they gave each other was phenomenal and showed what caring and thoughtful children we have at Vane road. I'm sure they have all come back and told you numerous stories and have had a great experience. I just hope they are all recharged and have had plenty of sleep for the week ahead.

Easter Egg Competition!          Easter Egg Competition!

World book day

On world book day we were allowed to dress up as our favourite character from our favourite book. A lot of people from different classes dressed up as Greg Hefley from diary of the wimpy kid. We also had a few harry potter characters like Ron Weasley, Harry Potter and Hermione Grainger.

NOAH: “It was so fun to learn a poem and not be so serious when learning it!” Noah, Sophie and Ashley performed a poem named gran can u rap! Noah was really pleased with the end result.”

SOPHIE: Sophie says;” when we stood up in front of the whole of KS2 (juniors) It was quite nerve raking as parents were watching too, and you don’t know how well or bad the judging is going to be.” At the end of the poem we received a reward and a little plastic trophy for our good recital of the poem. I was very pleased so was Noah!”

ASHLEY:   “I loved doing this poem as it was fun to learn! As well as it was fun, it was also as scary as a clown. This was a great experience! This is now my favourite poem!”

Lumiere

On Thursday the 4th the Lumiere took place with glow sticks flashing lights and many more.

Lego houses, a cardboard house lit up by tea light candles and the story of the three little pigs were all set in the infant quiet area.

Leading the way up to the junior yard, there were illuminated plastic flowers followed by a washing line of painted lanterns and then scary angler fish all huddled up with dangling jellyfish.

The highlights of the night were, one fantastic woman on stilts dressed up as a snowflake and a flaming, fantastic fire act which wowed the crowd.

Basketball team 2016

On the 14th January 2016 Vane Road basketball team entered a competition with 6 other schools joining us. The competition was made by SSP. We went to the competition with a lot of expectations, as we have won it the last 5 times. There were two teams (A team and B team) with the A team coming out on top and the B team coming 3rd. Each game lasted 7 minutes straight through and they had 4 people on each team. In the last game we played full court and the rest of the games were half court.

Well done to both teams and the A team will be moving on to the County Finals.

KS1 PLAY:

                                                                                                               The very hopeless camel!

The KS1  play was very good, KS2 thought it was excellent. The baseline of the story was based on a hopeless camel. Their singing was like a choir of angels. They sung a range of beautiful songs such as The very hopeless camel, Away in a manger and Little Donkey!

The voices were as clear as glass in a window. With amazingly brilliant costumes, just a fraction of the work that was put into it. Reception made their own donkey ears, while year 1 did a fabulous dance.

I’m sure the parents will agree with us.

Vane road athletic winners!!

On Thursday the 26th of November 2015 we went to an athletic competition in Sedgefield competing with eight different schools. Noah , who won all of his events , won a gold medal the same as other Vane road athletes. Noah quotes "Everyone had a great fun time and that's what matters!" I competed in four different events including: obstacle course, standing triple jump, standing long jump and the four by one race.

Noah

I also competed in the athletics in Sedgefield and luckily we won (taking home a gold medal) taking us through to the  county finals. I was involved in 2 activities which were: javelin and chest push. I enjoyed my self and so did all the other athletes from Vane road. Suprisingly, in my javelin I beat Sedgefield primary by 30cm ( a ruler). I wish us all good luck for the county finals in March 2016.

Sophie.
